Ekiti voted out three sitting governors, had one impeached and another removed by the Court of Appeal, and lived under emergency rule. In 2026 Biodun Oyebanji became the first to win a second term in a row.
Osun has had a governor installed by the Court of Appeal three years into a term, a 2018 result reversed by a rerun, a 2022 winner removed and restored by the courts, and in 2026 a re-election on a third party's ticket.
Biodun Oyebanji won Ekiti by a landslide in June, and Ademola Adeleke held Osun in August on a new party platform, in the last off-cycle elections before 2027.
