Reports from the presidential election on 25 February and the governorship election on 18 March 2023 described thugs disrupting voting, destroying ballot papers and threatening voters, particularly in areas where the Labour Party was expected to do well. Some voters were told not to vote unless they supported a particular party.
The police said they had made arrests, and civil society groups called for prosecutions.
