Sheriff Oborevwori is the Governor of Delta State. A grassroots politician from Okpe who rose from councillor to Speaker of the State House of Assembly, he succeeded Ifeanyi Okowa in 2023 and, with Okowa, led Delta’s PDP into the APC in April 2025.12
Early life and education
Oborevwori was born on 19 June 1963 in Osubi, Okpe Local Government Area. He took a degree in political science at Ambrose Alli University in 2004 and a master’s degree at Delta State University in 2010.1
Early career and the Assembly
He started as a community leader and became a councillor in 1996. Elected to the Delta State House of Assembly for Okpe in 2015, he became Speaker in May 2017 after his predecessor was removed, and was re-elected Speaker in 2019.1
Governor (2023–present)
Oborevwori won the March 2023 governorship election as the PDP candidate and took office on 29 May 2023.1 He governs under his “MORE” agenda (meaningful development, opportunities for all, realistic reforms, enhanced peace and security), with an emphasis on roads, flyovers and urban renewal in Warri, Asaba and other towns. His supporters cite these projects; opponents say the state’s large oil revenues should have delivered more.34
Move to the APC
In April 2025 Oborevwori, his predecessor Okowa (the PDP’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate) and most of the Delta PDP joined the APC, one of the most significant defections before the 2027 elections.2 In October 2025 the Delta APC adopted him as its sole governorship candidate for 2027.1
Personal life
He is married to Tobore Oborevwori. He holds the chieftaincy title Ukodo of Okpe.1
